To Friends

I was sent an email from a dear friend that really touched me. He didn't even write it himself but the message associated with it is really close to me. I thought I'd share it with all of you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, the creator of the"Peanuts" comic strip.
It only takes a second to read and I think it outlines what most of us try to define in our lifetimes.

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.
2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.
3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.
4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.
5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor andactress.
6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do? The point is, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday. These are no second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards tarnish. Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried with their owners. Here's another quiz ...see how you do on this one:

1. List at least two teachers who aided your journey through school.
2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.
3. Name four people who have taught you something worthwhile.
4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.
5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

Wasn't that easier? The lesson: The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones who care."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

See it's not necessarily about how big of a business(wo)man you are or how much power you have or what amazing discovery you've made. Friends are friends because they care. You could throw as much money as you'd like at me but deep down you're still not a true friend. Just remember this: You'll be best remembered by those you've cared for and the people who care for you.

This goes out to all those people who have helped guide me through my troubled times and shared in my joy during the happy days.

If we lived our lives by that philosophy we'd all be pretty amazing people. Not that many of us aren't already.
