Hmmm, got up and went through the rounds of reading my RSS feeds. I found a couple interesting articles that I'd like to comment on.

Microsoft knee jerks, buys VoIP firm

VoIP stands for Voice over IP, which basically, simplified, allows people to talk to other people over the internet. Ok, so Google release GoogleTalk a bit ago and it includes basic IM features, integration with Gmail and VoIP. So basically you can type, without any smilies, go through your emails and talk with a mic/headset. Some are seeing this as like a great revolution in the IM market or something. Hello people? There are plenty of other IMs that have come out before this that integrate those features and more. So what's Google doing new? Ummm, well nothing. So take a look at that article. It's saying Microsoft is trying to play catch up with Google in the IM department now. Last time I checked, I could do everything and more with MSN Messenger than I can with GoogleTalk. Wha? Huh? You can do voice chats on MSN Messenger?! Oh god! So I don't really see how MS is trying to catch Google's 'lead'. Pathetic. If there's one thing I dislike more than monopolies, it's the rabid fanboying towards a company or product. This is something along those lines. It's like my views towards Apple. It seems like everything they release, no matter how old or useless it is, it's accepted like a child of god among the masses. Sad. Maybe one day I'll be writing about GoogleFanatics...

Next, as you know the situation seems to be getting worse in New Orleans due to two areas of the levees protecting the city having now been breached. Widespread panic and helplessness seems to have set in on the population there. Looting has been also widespread. Just take a look at this picture.

These are dispicable acts. When people are dieing all you can think about is stealing stuff?

Wait a minute, here's another picture of people steal... Woah, hold on. What does this caption say?

You know, that's funny cause last time I checked taking from a store without paying, no matter how much you take, is still stealing. It's odd that the first person was 'looting' while the second two were 'finding'. Now let's delve further. The first person was a young African American male. The secons is of two Caucasian people. Hmmm. Makes you wonder if that has anything to do with it.

It has everything to do with it.
Although I really can't judge these people as I'm not sure what I would do in a situation like that with no food or drinking water.

My thoughts are with those in New Orleans. I hope everything works out with few casualties eventually.

Great post on google talk charlie. I have been wondering the same thing myself about voip for a really long time! My host parents tonight over dinner were reveling at the amazing voip. But had no idea waht MSN was!!! How long has msn been out again...

The two captions on the photos are written by different people. I don't think it is a matter of racism, but a matter of different views of stealing in a time when some people need to steal to survive.

I know, I'd agree mostly with you actually Will. I just found it... interesting.

Oh and Nick, while you're there, you may as well impart some of your techno-babble on them eh? ;) I think MS may not be as predominant a company as it is here in North America.

Wow... good point Charlie about the captions.

I just wonder what we would be doing if we were in the same situation?

Would I just be like "F**k it" and steal food? Probably. These people are forgetting that this stuff must still be paid for because it was bought by the stores at one point... They are losing their businesses under water and then people try to steal their goods?!

I absolutely have no idea how everyone must feel in Louisiana right now...
